Deutsche Telekom has announced a strategic partnership with Software AG in order to deliver Internet of Things (IoT) services on a global scale. The operator’s enterprise customer unit, T-Systems, will expand its ‘Cloud of Things’ offering, using Software AG’s Cumulocity IoT platform.
The partnership, announced by Software AG CEO Sanjay Brahmawar and T-Systems chief executive Adel Al-Saleh (above) allows both companies to make a bold play for an emerging multi-billion international market in IoT. By pooling expertise and resources, the two will expand their presence across the US, Germany and wider European markets.
T-Systems will utilise Cumulocity IoT’s connected architecture as the new base for its integrated Cloud of Things IoT platform, the backbone that supports a vast range of mission-critical customer applications, starting small but scaling fast. It enables companies to remotely monitor, manage and control their connected devices and machines, and also provides huge insight that helps cut costs, boost efficiency, increase security and create new value by converting raw data into business intelligence.
Cloud of Things will now operate within a multi-cloud environment, giving it greater ability to scale quickly with customer demand and expand its capabilities with many new functional extensions that include Streaming Analytics, Micro Services and new protocols.
At this year’s MWC event in Barcelona, SK Telecom and Deutsche Telekom signed an MoU to ‘jointly promote the blockchain business’ for identity and verification use cases. The two companies were looking to cooperate by putting together, and eventually commercialising, a digital ID card focusing on identity, access control, as well as other transactions and contracts.
